Jesús Movellán graduated in applied arts at the Massana School of Barcelona in 1984, specializing in mural painting and engraving. His work ranges from painting through sculpture to what the artist calls pictorial architecture, i.e. the pictorial intervention in abandoned buildings, where the artist develops a spatial vision of painting.
His works can be defined by their essential and abstract aesthetic, the economy of language and the monochrome character, where one can appreciate an interest in texture and the pictorial support. Multiple layers of the pictorial element compose his paintings which force him to constantly rewrite his works.
His three-dimensional works are composed of recovered, used materials that belong to our personal and daily landscape, creating works of great austerity that acquire a subtle spiritual meaning.
Jesus Movellán has had various solo and collective exhibitions, both in Spain as well as in Europe and the USA and his works can be found in various collections and museums of contemporary art.
